Introduction to CDL (Module 1)

Course Focus: This foundational module serves as the required entry point to the CDL training program. It introduces students to the legal, physical, and administrative requirements of commercial driving while providing initial exposure to vehicle controls via simulators.

Delivery Format: This class is offered live (in-person or via video conferencing) or through recorded video conferencing. Students must complete this module within 30 days of admission to avoid forfeiting funding.

Course Content and Deliverables

This course provides the mandatory framework and initial preparation required before a student can begin advanced permit study and practical driving:

• Fundamental CDL Introduction: A comprehensive overview of the commercial driving industry, including the types of Commercial Driver's Licenses (Class A, B, and C), primary career paths, and the legal responsibilities of a professional driver.

• Permit Preparation Fundamentals: Students begin the permit preparation process by learning key regulations, safety rules, and an overview of the knowledge sections (General Knowledge, Air Brakes, Combinations) they will need to master.

• Medical and Administrative Requirements: preliminary instruction on the necessary medical exams, drug test requirements, and administrative clearance needed to secure the CDL permit.

• Initial Simulator Familiarization: Students receive introductory time on the driving simulators, focusing on familiarizing themselves with the cab, dash controls, basic shifting patterns, and pre-trip inspection concepts in a safe, controlled environment.
